INTRODUCTION:

DPSS Employees must complete the entire AAF Customer Application, including the Wish List, on behalf of the Customer. Once completed, click the SUBMIT button for the application to be queued for processing.

The Adopt-A-Family is a program in which sponsors are carefully matched to families or customers to provide gifts for the holidays. Adopt-A-Family relies heavily on the commitment of sponsors who include organizations, teams, individuals, or families to spread holiday cheer by adopting single or multiple families.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW and INSTRUCTIONS:

Before DPSS Employees submit an application on behalf of a family, you must verify that all DPSS customers (families) have an open and valid CalWORKs, CalFresh, IHSS or Medi-Cal case. Unfortunately, General Relief recipients are not eligible for this program. The application must be completely filled out and submitted to the Toy Loan & Volunteer Services section.

Below are the steps:

•   Step 1: Completely fill out the Customer’s Application. Only include eligible members of the customer’s household that are on the DPSS case.

•   Step 2: Explain the current state of the customer’s family/living situation. This field is mandatory. Please ensure all the information provided is correct and be as detailed as possible in the “Descriptive Summary” portion of the application to clearly communicate their situation and preferences. Priority is given to those that have had severe hardships during the past months. Leaving any section blank may render the application ineligible.

•   Step 3: List all members in the immediate family. Give first and last name, gender, and age. When listing children and household members, please verify they are associated with the same case number to ensure eligibility. If customers listed on the application are not on the active case, they may not qualify for the program.

•   Step 4: Complete the wish list.

Add categories for what is most needed by the family. No item is guaranteed, the final decision is left to the sponsors who donates.

•   Step 5: Submit the Customer’s application.

Customers are chosen in a lottery-based fashion. This is considered a once in a lifetime opportunity, so once chosen this family will not be eligible for future Adopt-A-Family campaigns. Also, not every family that applies will be chosen.

Once you have successfully completed and submitted the Customer’s application, it will be queued for processing. Application processing can take 1-2 weeks.
